Endocrinology is the branch of medicine that studies the structure and function of the endocrine organs, including the pituitary gland, adrenal glands, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, ovaries, and testicles. It is the science of endocrine function, glands, hormones, and their action.
The activities of the Masdiag Laboratory currently focus on the diagnosis of thyroid and adrenal disorders. Further development of methods enabling a more complete diagnosis of thyroid hypofunction is planned, including the determination of antibodies against thyroglobulin (anti-TG) and antibodies against peroxidase (anti-TPO) in a dried blood spot, as well as the development of a test allowing for a 24-hour (5-point) measurement of cortisol concentration in saliva.

List of endocrine methods:

Abbreviation Method
MET_P Quantitative determination of free methoxy-catecholamines in plasma by LC-MS/MS technique
CORT_SAL Quantitative determination of cortisol and cortisone in saliva by LC-MS/MS technique. Used in diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome.
TSH_DBS Quantitative determination of thyrotropin (TSH) in DBS by CLIA technique
fT4_DBS Quantitative determination of free thyroxine (fT4) in DBS by CLIA technique
